IBM 2624 is an IOP capable of controlling up to three internal SCSI tape or CD-ROM devices and one diskette device with the addition of a #6146: Diskette Adapter For migration: #2624 will be specified when diskette or CD-ROM is required on the migration side of his system. #2624 will not be specified for controlling tape, however an installed #2624 or a #2624 specified to support the addition of diskette or CD-ROM can also be used to control supported tape devices. When tape devices are selected, the configurator will specify a #6513: Internal Tape Device Controller unless a #2624 already exists or has been specified for diskette or CD-ROM. #6146: Diskette Adapter Diskette Adapter may be added to any #2624 for the purpose of controlling an external diskette. The addition of #6146 to #2624 does not reduce the #2624s ability to control internal tape. In addition, #6146 and #2624 can be used for the sole purpose of controlling external diskette when no internal tape is present. For more information see the description of feature #6146. For Towers 5072/5073/5077/5064/9364 When controlling internal tape or CD-ROM the #2624 must be placed into slot three of the #5072/#5073 or slot four of the 5077 Migration Tower II. The #2624 can not be used to support tape or CD-ROM in the 503X Migration Tower I or #5064/#9364 System Unit Expansion because the #2624 does not support device concurrent maintenance. When controlling external diskette, #2624 can be placed into slots three through ten of the #5072/#5073 or any slot in the #5064/#9364, System Unit Expansion with #9331. When #2624 is used to control diskettes only, it is not considered a high-workload IOP.
